If you're looking for a team that emphasizes player development in a fun and challenging environment rather than fulfilling the coach's ego, why don't you come out and give us a try? At the academy level, we concentrate on developing the player's ability to go 1 v 1--ball handling, foot skills, moves, and technique--and then add in tactics and teamwork. The bottom line? Please check your email and volunteer for field marshal spots. Together, we can make this tournament a success! Every effort needs to be made to get to the fields 30 minutes before game time for warm-ups, etc. Coach Clark appreciates your help in this! Any boy who is late, for sure will not start. Rest and diet are very important for our boys to be able to play their best this weekend. Please make sure your son gets plenty of rest Friday night. On Friday, he needs to have some good protein foods (i.e., meats, beans & corn [can you say nachos?], etc.). Then, in between games, please do not weigh him down with cheeseburgers or greasy food. Foods such as pasta (spaghetti, macaroni, etc.), mashed potatoes, bean burritos, corn, rice, and peanut butter & jelly will give lots of carbohydrates to help him generate the energy he'll need. Coach Clark's Corner Every attempt is being made to try to give every boy similar playing time. Nevertheless, in a must-win situation, such as an opportunity to advance in a tournament, I will try to play the boys who are "on" during that particular game. Every boy tends to have better games than others, so we'll want to try to put our best foot forward. :-) I am very pleased with the improvement I've been seeing in all of the boys' play. They are all playing with more confidence on the ball, and many of them are trying to dribble under pressure and use the foot skills they've been learning. We will add to this more tactics and set plays as the year progresses. The game will come to those who, through proper practice and hard work, elevate their skill-level.
